A TREE REMOVAL PERMIT IS REQUIRED FOR REMOVAL OF A "PROTECTED TREE*' IF:
*PROTECTED TREE: Any tree having a diameter-at-breast-height (DBH) of four (4") inches or more, and all mangroves regardless of size. Cabbage palms (Sabel palmetto) with ten feet of clear trunk are included as protected treea. Protected trees do not include: Australian pine (Casuarina sp.), Brazilian pepper (Schinus terebinthifolius), or Melaleuca (Melaleuca quinquenervia). Citrus trees are not protected trees, although the County encourages their preservation for landscaping. However, a land clearing permit may be necessary for their removal (see land clearing above). |
IF A LAND CLEARING OR TREE REMOVAL PERMIT IS REQUIRED: Applications for land clearing and/or tree removal permits can be picked up at the front desk of the County Planning Division.
As part of the application, a copy of deed of ownership and a tree survey must be submitted. For further information, contact an environmental planner at (772) 567-8000, extension 1249. Note: Failure to secure the necessary permits prior to commencing work could result in substantial fines and/or penalties. |
