59 acres,
located south of Round Island Riverside Park, contain mature
maritime hammock and coastal wetlands. The public access facilities
will be located off of Round Island Riverside Park. The conservation
area provides a beautiful walk through beautiful maritime
hammock with large Live Oaks, Red Bays, thick understory of
marlberry, myrsine, wild coffee and other native vegetation.
The trail meanders on the edge of the estuarine wetland where
thick mangroves abound. The impoundment is a haven for wading
birds, Osprey and other wildlife. Manatees frequent the Lagoon
at Round Island and can be seen frolicking and playing in
great numbers from the Round Island Park Boardwalk. Future
plans will include improved trails and boardwalks, interpretive
educational signage and a trailhead. |
